About Me

My name is Stephen David McGuire. I am a thirty one year old student at the University of Huddersfield studying for a BSc (Hons) in Internet Systems Development. I am currently employed by Vetatech as a placement student which forms part of my degree studies

The reason I returned to studying was to make a change to my life with an eye on the future. Since leaving High School in the summer of 1995, I have had a variety of jobs mainly in the cycle industry. I became one of Yorkshire’s leading cycle repair technicians and as a result have worked on the continent as a mechanic for a cycling holiday supplier and one of Yorkshire’s largest bike shops, Hargreaves Cycles of Dewsbury. Unfortunately, the life style afforded by the cycle industry is not brilliant, and as I did not want to become a bike shop owner I opted to leave my job, return to school and develop what was a hobby into a career.

I have been building websites for friends and family for over five years now. I started building websites as a hobby for something interesting to do during the winter months when cycling is not at all fun.

I began by studying a book on HTML that taught me the basics and gave a really good insight to coding in HTML. I then went on to develop web sites using Macromedia Dreamweaver and now include Server Side Includes (SSI) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) into my sites. Recently, I have taken the step to host the websites that I develop.

Further studies at the University have introduced technologies such as PHP, ASP, SQL, Java, C++, UML, .NET and a wide and varied range of project management skills

The practical and theoretical tools I have learned have stood me in good stead both for the development in Web Design and the various facets of my course.

In addition to all this, I am also very keen on the technical aspects of building and maintaining computers. Recently, I have gained a reputation for my quality work in PC building and repair. Also, the advice I have given on a varied range of computing topics - from virus and malware issues, wireless network security, operating system installation and data back up – has helped numerous people save time and money.
